As the New York Giants march towards their playoff goals, second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt has emerged as an instrumental figure in their ascent. Standing at an impressive 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, Hyatt has committed himself to bulking up, aiming to withstand the rigors of another demanding NFL season.
"It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating," Hyatt explained.
Hyatt, a third-round pick out of Tennessee, has found an unconventional yet effective method to aid his weight gain: Uncrustables, the frozen, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. This unique addition to his diet is part of a broader plan to ensure he consumes adequate calories.
"PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," Hyatt detailed.
Hyatt's efforts off the field have translated into notable performances on it. During Week 2 of the 2023 season, his 58-yard reception was pivotal in the Giants' narrow three-point win over the Cardinals. His knack for delivering in crucial moments has continued to shine, as evident in Week 7 against the Commanders. Hyatt's contribution of two catches for 75 yards played a significant role in New York's 14-7 victory.
The zenith of Hyatt's young career came in Week 12 when he notched his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. His stellar performance was a cornerstone in the Giants' tight win over the Patriots, further cementing his importance to the team's aspirations.
Team Focus and Drive
Hyatt's commitment extends beyond personal achievements. His vision for the team's success remains unwavering. "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," he said.
This level of dedication is infectious and has undoubtedly contributed to the Giants' collective effort as they push towards their playoff goals. With Hyatt's combination of talent, work ethic, and team-first mentality, the Giants have a key player who not only delivers critical plays but also embodies the spirit of a playoff contender.
As the season progresses, Jalin Hyatt's evolution from a promising rookie to a crucial asset continues to be a storyline worth watching. His unique approach to diet, combined with his on-field performances, underscores the multifaceted efforts required to excel at the highest level of professional football.
With Hyatt and his teammates aligning their efforts towards playoff success, the New York Giants are in a promising position, galvanized by the contributions of their burgeoning star wide receiver.
